Abstract

Symposium and Exhibition funded by the New Dali Intangible Cultural Heritage Station in Lijiang, Yunnan, China. My research artefacts were part of this exhibition for the inaugural opening of the BR Gallery. In this exhibition and symposium, the curator brings together a group of seven internationally recognised experts from the United Kingdom working at the forefront of metalwork and jewellery. They have all been practicing within these disciplines for many years and have made significant contribution to creativity, craftsmanship and education. Making Connections bought together a range of creative communities to include- Academics & Researchers from Royal College of Art, Sheffield Hallam University, De Montfort University and Yunnan Arts University, established practitioners, industry leaders, cultural and heritage ministers alongside students aspiring to pursue a career in Silversmithing. (Exhibition catalogue includes essays and current debate around different cultures and craft) My research artefact ‘Ice teapot’ demonstrated a blending of contemporary and traditional cultural identity with new ways of approaching design for silversmithing.
