This chapter covers key concepts in representing, processing and distributing music digitally. Why understanding these is important to a musician these days. The book is aimed primarily at music educators and music academics with the aim of stimulating discussion and curriculum innovation around the teaching and learning of musicianship. Therefore an outline of the current state of knowledge in this area and some guidance about how understanding this can assist a musician’s development is appropriate. Chapters are written for a well-educated reader who is musically experienced but may not be familiar with digital music.en
