Abstract

Two poems from the early part of the extended sequence 'Jamie's Book of Ingenuity'. The first, 'How to rise', employs conflicting pieces of advice culled from obituaries, tribute, laudatory speeches, etc. The second poem, 'Jamie Dreams' is concerned with the "lost eleven days" when the calendar altered from the Julian to the Gregorian, and with James Watt's uncertainties and imagination in his teenage years.
