This book chapter examines the difficulties faced by the health services in Britain during the Covid-19 pandemic following a decade of severe funding contstraints in capital investment, public health and health services themselves. it considers outstanding challenges as the NHS operates in an environment shaped increasingly by a combination of problems including economic instability, funding restrictions at a time of high levels of patient need resulting in a weakening of public confidence in the service, and the global climate emergency.
