Abstract

Description

This research was key to development of ESA’s near-real-time monitoring capability for inland water (http://earth.esa.int/riverandlake/) and led directly to the recent ESA RFQ (the world lead in this field was established by this research, therefore ESA were able to enter direct negotiation rather than going to open tender) for further system development to enhance recovery of global river and lake levels and integrate measurements with hydrological models. This work is also key to World Meteorological Organisation involvement (see http://earth.esa.int/hydrospace07/flyer.html) and has significantly impacted future mission design ( e.g. Sentinel-3 altimeter mission requirements now include inland water: http://esamultimedia.esa.int/docs/GMES/GMES_Sentinel3_MRD_V2.0_update.pdf).
