Abstract
Description
This chapter is co-authored with Rod Dacombe of Oxford University and is part of a Europe-wide review analysing the position of young people in relation to racism/right-wing extremism. Based on research individually conducted by the authors, this chapter discusses racism in relation to young people in the UK and relevant historical and contemporary policy, and it highlights good practice in formal education and community development settings. It was commissioned by the DJI (German Youth Institute). The author mainly dealt with the historical and contemporary aspects of race in the paper and informal strategies whilst Rod Dacombe dealt with formal education.
