Abstract

Description

Type reduction is the major new computation in a type-2 fuzzy logic system (T2 FLS). We have obtained minimax bounds for the type-reduced set, and those bounds can be computed without having to perform type-reduction. Hagras quickly picked up the results and recognized that the uncertainty bounds can be used as a new architecture for an interval T2 FLS. This architecture is used in a marine diesel engine controller and it is shown that its performance gives almost exactly the same as would have been obtained if type reduction had been used.
