Abstract

Description

One of the advantages of grey numbers over intervals is their capability in expressing discrete and continuous numbers. This is not shown by the present application of grey numbers. We provide a new definition of grey numbers which integrates both continuous and discrete grey numbers. We discuss their degree of greyness and derive their arithmetic operations and relevant degree of greyness. Our results show that grey numbers have more powerful capability in expressing uncertainty caused by missing information. This research is applicable to engineering domains where discrete grey numbers are necessary, such as transportation planning etc.
