Abstract
Violence in schools is the central interest of many researches and prevention programs developed in the past decades, both in Europe and elsewhere. We cannot say with certainty that this interest is the direct consequence of an increase in amplitude or severity of the phenomenon. However, we believe that it could be the result of the development of our own reflexivity towards the effects of such acts. The limits of understanding the determinism of school violence are presently pushed more and more past immediate risk factors, following a holist perspective for the approach of preventing this phenomenon. As we will show in the article, school violence needs to be defined in a broader sense to include also less visible forms. We will also argue that for prevention programs to be effective, the understanding of school violence has to follow an ecological model, which focuses on our collective responsibility for the prevention of the phenomenon
