Abstract
Description
Bridges 105C, 105D, 106, 107 is the third film in the Bridge Series. This audio-visual work reflects upon the relationship between urban topography and the natural landscape. Bridges documents and explores the human and natural imprints found in urban morphology and transformation. The film's imagery captures the juxtaposition of the sub structures of urban canal bridges and nature. The audio applies the various elements of soundscape ecology to explore the geophony, biophony and anthrophony prevalent within the space.
Bridges are more than a mere functional device; they are places that provide environmental and social insights into humans and nature. By exploring the human and natural imprints found in bridge topography, the film documents the juxtaposition of the sub structures of canal/river bridges and the environment.
The linear spatial narrative, humming traffic noise and birdsong, combine to consider the effects of both 19th and 20th Century commerce on the landscape.
The video documents these structures in relation to heritage and environment and begins a discussion on the purpose, role and uses of these structures whether that is wildlife conservation, environmental impact and human wellbeing.
