dc.description.abstract | School leavers with learning disabilities often face difficulties in making a smooth transition from school to college, employment or more broadly, to adult life. The transition phase is traumatic for the young person with learning disabilities and their families as it often results in the loss of friendships, relationships and social networks. The aim of this chapter is to explore the issues of transition from adolescence to adulthood for young people with learning disabilities and its effect on their psychological wellbeing. In doing this, this chapter will connect with the experiences of family carers in the transition planning processes for their son/daughter with a learning disability. This chapter will also explore the impact of social networks in promoting inclusion and psychological wellbeing. | en |
