Abstract

Description

This paper describes the research leading to a tool designed to raise students' awareness of the social impact of ICT. The tool offers guidance to students undertaking computing and computer-related courses when considering the social, legal and professional implications in situations of ethical conflict. This tool has had a significant impact on undergraduate computing programmes in the UK, Malaysia, and Denmark through the two universities, De Montfort and Wolverhampton, collaborating in this research. The paper has subsequently been included in the anthology “Teaching and Practice of Professional Ethics” edited by John Strain and Simon Robinson (2005).
