Abstract

Description

This article examines overcrowding in prisons and how space can be found in the spiritual. Through descriptions of their experiences of yoga it is possible to observe how, for some prisoners, spirituality provides a much needed ‘breathing space’. In particular, pranayama (breath work) and meditation are the keys to unlocking a sense of freedom within the confines of an oppressive place.
