Abstract
The report examines the proposals for bed capacity in Building Better Hospitals For the Future proposals for the reorganisation of acute hospital and maternity services in Leicester, under formal public consultation at the time of writing. The report discusses the current beds deficit and the plans for increasing bed capacity described in the proposals. It finds that there is a lack of certainty regarding whether all the stated additional beds will be created. There is no bed planning after 2024 and no expansion plan is provided although official population projections point to a significant population increase in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland in the subsequent decade or so.
