Abstract

This article discusses a summary of Christopher Marlowe's play, 'Edward II', that appears in the papers of John Newdigate II, based on his reading of the play in print. It relates Newdigate's reading of the play to his broader, topical interest in ill-fated rulers and the rebellion of the Earl of Essex against Queen Elizabeth I in 1601.
