Abstract
The origins of the Internet can be found in the early 1960s but the first working version of ARPANET, the Internet’s predecessor, was put together in 1969 (Leiner et al, undated). This was exactly the time when I started my investigations into artworks in which participants interacted with one another through the artwork, or art system. My motivation was a fascination with human communication rather than with the technologies of networks, but making the artworks has certainly led to considerable involvement with those technologies. This paper describes the path of development of my artworks that have looked at human-to-human communication through electronic (computer) systems from 1969 until today.
