Conclusion: Progress towards a net zero carbon society

This conclusion chapter reiterates the significance and timeliness of this edited book, Research Journeys to Net Zero: Current and Future Leaders, and explains the value and benefits of reading this book. The critical lessons learned and insight gained from the 16 chapters in this book are summarised in five parts: (i) science and engineering, (ii) design and innovation, (iii) energy sector, (iv) transportation sector, and (v) fashion and service sectors. The chapter highlights the importance of ground-breaking research, innovative technologies, forward-thinking strategies, interdisciplinary collaborations, urgent actions, and involving and supporting young researchers.
