Abstract

This paper will consider the contribution of studio designers, freelance designers and design studios in Paris and Britain to the development of innovative printed textile design in the 1920s and 30s. My PhD research has been focused on analysis of the process of style change in the interwar period. A key aim was to clarify what the sources of innovation in design were. Who was designing the most innovative new work? What was most significant in influencing the acceptance of particular designs or establishing a wider style?
