This paper analyses the economic and demographic transformation taking place in India and estimates the implication of these changes on residential energy demand up to 2030 horizon. It uses a bottom-up modelling approach for the demand analysis and finds that unless mitigation measures are taken, the demand will explode. There is a window of opportunity for improving energy efficiency to manage the demand.en
