Item Metadata only Cost-efficient materials in aerospace: composite vs aluminium.(Springer-Verlag., 2008) Tan, Xincai Cato; Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Gove, David; Doherty, JohnAluminium alloys are a series of traditional materials applied in aerospace industry. Composite materials have been being used to replace some aluminium alloys in airframe structures. To select a cost-efficient material in aerospace design, a framework for systematic assessment of composites and aluminium is therefore suggested. Through evaluation of 3Ps which represent prices, properties and processing of material, life cycle assessment of aluminium and composite could be made. By comparison of and trade-off the listed baselines of 3Ps, an economic, rational, available and useful material can be logically selected.Item Metadata only Costing of aluminium for life cycle(AIAA, 2008-01) Tan, Xincai Cato; Wang, Jian; Xu, Yuchun; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Gore, David; Doherty, JohnItem Metadata only Dynamic friction model and its application in flat rolling(Elsevier, 2008-10) Wang, Jian; Tan, Xincai Cato; Yan, Xiu-Tian; Juster, Neal P.; Raghunathan, SrinivasanThere have not been any friction models applied to successfully predict distributions of contact stresses in flat rolling yet, in particular for the neutral plane. In this paper, the dynamic friction model (DFM) is expressed as a combination of both definitions of the viscosity and the friction, and is employed to derive underlying mathematical expressions of forces in flat rolling. The model is validated through experimental results obtained by Lenard et al in the literature for various rolling processes, hot rolling, warm rolling and cold rolling of aluminium. By comparisons of the experimental data with the results predicted by the dynamic friction model, Amontons-Coulomb’s friction model and the constant friction model, it is found that the application of the dynamic friction model leads to a better solution to prediction of contact stresses at the neutral plane. It is believed that the dynamic friction model could extensively be used to resolve dynamic plasticity problems of solids.Item Metadata only Energy absorption and deformation in textile composite cellular structures.(AIAA, 2009-03) Tan, Xincai Cato; Chen, Xiaogang; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Wang, JianItem Metadata only Energy absorption in textile composite cellular structures(2008-04) Tan, Xincai Cato; Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Raghunathan, SrinivasanItem Metadata only A generic life cycle cost modeling approach for aircraft system.(Springer-Verlag., 2008) Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Tan, Xincai Cato; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Doherty, John; Gove, DavidLife cycle cost (LCC) is truly representative to the total cost of an aircraft through its life cycle. It is usually used for estimating the cost-effectiveness of an aircraft design. For enabling LCC estimation at early stage, A LCC model have been being developed for aircraft wing under the umbrella of Integrated Wing Advanced Technology Validation Programme in United Kingdom. Object-oriented and hierarchical approaches are used for LCC modelling. The cost estimation is based on bottom-up approach. The developed LCC model is generic, and can be customized and applied for estimating the costs of other aircraft systems.Item Metadata only Life cycle assessment of aluminium for engineering application(2008-09) Tan, Xincai Cato; Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Gove, David; Doherty, JohnItem Metadata only Life cycle costing for an aircraft wing using an object-oriented systems engineering approach.(2008-01) Tan, Xincai Cato; Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Early, J.; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Doherty, John; Gove, DavidItem Metadata only Manufacturing cost modelling for technology assessment.(ICRM, 2008) Xu, Y.; Tan, Xincai Cato; Wang, Jian; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Doherty, J.; Gove, DavidItem Metadata only Modelling energy absorption in textile composite eellular structures.(Curran Associates, Inc., 2008) Tan, Xincai Cato; Chen, Xiaogang; Wang, Jian; Raghunathan, SrinivasanItem Metadata only Risk analysis in lifecycle costing of aluminium.(2008-09) Tan, Xincai Cato; Xu, Yuchun; Wang, Jian; Curran, Ricky; Raghunathan, Srinivasan; Gove, David; Doherty, John
