Item Metadata only Application of lean tools and principles in the manufacturing cost modelling process.(2008) Delgado Arvelo, Y.; Stockton, DavidItem Metadata only Exploring the application of new data collection tools and techniques in the development of cost models.(The Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2007) Delgado Arvelo, Y.; Stockton, DavidTwo aspects of the cost model development process have been neglected by the costing research community, i.e. the need to develop a coherent model development methodology and the problem of data identification and collection. Both are essential to the success of the cost model development process, particularly when cost models must be developed for processes and products that are still under development. This presentation describes the results and findings from an investigation examining the Cost Model Development Process in terms of data sources and data collection techniques and tools used by cost engineers and estimators when developing cost models and estimates, and how the appropriate selection of these elements can contribute to make cost model generation faster, easier and more structured. A survey, followed by structured interviews, was conducted. Industrial and academic experts in the fields of cost modelling from a variety of manufacturing sectors contribute to identify and explore the applications of traditional techniques and new tools, such as Lean Manufacturing techniques, for gathering cost data. A comprehensive database of tools and techniques has been developed. This is part of an ongoing research in the area of Cost Modelling aiming to improve the speed and effectiveness with which cost models are built and applied.Item Metadata only Improving the cost model development procedure.(AACEI, 2002) Delgado Arvelo, Y.; McNeill, M.; Stockton, DavidThis paper describes current results and findings from an investigation whose principal aim is to improve the cost model development process, i.e. the speed and effectiveness with which cost models are developed and applied. Academic experts in the fields of cost modelling and soft computing have been brought together with major UK aerospace companies, their SMEs suppliers, and an international developer and vendor of costing software. Workshops and structured interviews has been conducted to identify current cost models development tools and techniques, used both in and outside the aerospace industry, and to determine the conditions under which their represent ‘best practice’. This work will lead to the development of an expert advisor to improve the capability of the UK aerospace industry in the key areas of product and process costing. A comprehensive toolkit of data identification, data collection, data analysis and decision making tools are being developed for this advisor.Item Metadata only Improving the cost model development process.(Technology Transfer and Innovation (TTI Conference 2000), Commonwealth Institute, 2000-07) Delgado Arvelo, Y.; McNeill, M.; Stockton, DavidItem Metadata only Improving the cost model development process.(2000) McNeill, M.; Stockton, David; Delgado Arvelo, Y.; Dunkley, M.Item Metadata only Scoping the manufacturing cost modelling process.(De Montfort University, 2007) Delgado Arvelo, Y.; Stockton, David
