Abstract

This chapter explores how after years of neglect and persecution China has now rehabilitated festivals and given them a new role in contemporary society. The case study focus's on the place of festivals in the coastal city of Lianyungang at a time of economic growth and development, and looks at the relationship between festivals and tourism.
