Abstract

Jean Williams of the International Centre for Sports History and Culture De Montfort University and John O'Shea of the National Football Museum discussed the importance of the new work 'Personal Museums' with artists from the Manchester-based Soup Collective. 'Personal Museums' takes items of memorabilia from football fans and, via a process of 3D scanning and printing, turns them into museum objects, complete with stories and memories from their owners. Soup Collective were in residence in the immersive cinema space all week and created a new edition of the Personal Museums work especially for the Road to Rio programme. Attendees were asked to bring their own World Cup memorabilia for scanning, complete with the memories they have of past tournaments.
