Show Me Your Garden And I Shall Tell You What You Are
Review by Gemma de Curz of Show Me Your Garden And I Shall Tell You What You Are, the solo exhibition of original, site specific work by Louise Clarke at the Fishmarket Gallery, Northampton. The exhibition was the result of an open call submission for the commission of new and original work. After peer review and the interview process, Louise Clarke was offered the commission. As artist in residence at the gallery she made the work with an 'open access' policy, allowing the public to walk through the gallery throughout the whole process, to contribute materials and engaged in discussion using the gallery as an 'open' studio environment so the public could see and participate in the work from inception, to making and installing. This engagement with the public throughout and beyond the final 'viewing' of the exhibition expanded the audience for the gallery and for culture within Northampton and gave ownership and pride to residents particularly as much of the materials used in the work were donated by local people.
