Our creative products and services are consumed around the world and international economies look to the UK to emulate our creative approach. Creative cities can have a transformative effect on economies and act as a catalyst for regeneration. In the Midlands, cultural and creative activities have been key to leading cities like Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham out of the structural decline caused by the loss of traditional manufacturing. Music and arts, IT services, games, film and TV production, as well as aspects of fashion and design are the engine of economic growth, but also shape a city’s international image. The UK’s creative industries generate in excess of £70-80 billion pounds each year and employ around 3 million creative workers…1 in 10 people, but in cities like Leicester, account for nearly a quarter of local business activity. In this film, the growth and sustainability of creative cities are considered.
