Item Open Access Capturing the Participants Voice: Using Causal Mapping supported by Group Decision Software to enhance Procedural Justice(Springer, 2018-06-08) Kaur, Parmjit; Carreras, AshleyThis paper examines the way in which causal mapping, aided by group decision software, adheres to the tenets of procedural justice. Causal mapping workshops utilise a dual facilitation process that enables the participants’ “voice” to be heard. We demonstrate how a causal mapping process of investigation sur- faces authentic qualitative data by aligning the process of investigation with the principles of procedural justice as found in organisational justice literature. This is supported by a statistical analysis of the dimension of procedural justice using the responses of workshop participants.Item Open Access Duration Gap Analysis Revisited Method in Order to Improve Risk Management. The case of (Chinese) commercial bank interest rate risks after interest rate liberalization(Springer, 2019-10-23) Kaur, Parmjit; Syed, Babar; Dhesi, Gurjeet; Ausloos, Marcel; ma, qianhuiModern theories attach much attention to interest rate related problems. We discuss the impacts of the interest rate liberalization, in China, for (10) commercial banks of (3) markedly different ownership types. The methodology is based on revisited interest rate sensitivity analysis, duration analysis and Value-at-Risk analysis. The situation is both examined within vertical (composition of operating income and interest rate sensitivity gap for the ten banks in the same year) and horizontal (one bank over a seven-year-period) aspects. Thereafter, we discuss the present management of interest rate risks by such banks. We conclude with several suggestions, on how such commercial banks risk management can be refocused and on how their cases can be used for comforting other banking cases.Item Open Access Entropic Analysis of Votes Expressed in Italian Elections between 1948 and 2018(MDPI, 2020-05-04) Marmani, Stefano; Ficcandenti, Valerio; Kaur, Parmjit; Dhesi, GurjeetIn Italy, the elections occur often, indeed almost every year the citizens are involved in a democratic choice for deciding leaders of different administrative entities. Sometimes the citizens are called to vote for filling more than one office in more than one administrative body. This phenomenon has occurred 35 times after 1948; it creates the peculiar condition of having the same sample of people expressing decisions on political bases at the same time. Therefore, the Italian contemporaneous ballots constitute the occasion to measure coherence and chaos in the way of expressing political opinion. In this paper, we address all the Italian elections that occurred between 1948and2018. Then, weusetheShannonentropyandtheGiniIndex to study the degree of disorder manifested during different types of elections at the municipality level. A particular focus is devoted to the contemporaneous elections. Such cases implicate different disorder dynamics in the contemporaneous ballots, when different administrative level are involved. Furthermore, some features that characterize different entropic regimes have emerged.Item Open Access Evidence for Gross Domestic Product growth time delay dependence over Foreign Direct Investment. A time-lag dependent correlation study(Elsevier, 2019-05-04) Kaur, Parmjit; Eskandary, Ali; Dhesi, Gurjeet; Ausloos, MarcelThis paper considers an often forgotten relationship, the time delay between a cause and its effect in economies and finance. We treat the case of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and economic growth, - measured through a country Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The pertinent data refers to 43 countries, over 1970-2015, - for a total of 4278 observations. When countries are grouped according to the Inequality-Adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), it is found that a time lag dependence effect exists in FDI-GDP correlations. This is established through a time-dependent Pearson ’s product-moment correlation coefficient matrix. Moreover, such a Pearson correlation coefficient is observed to evolve from positive to negative values depending on the IHDI, from low to high. It is "politically and policy "relevant" that the correlation is statistically significant providing the time lag is less than 3 years. A "rank-size" law is demonstrated. It is recommended to reconsider such a time lag effect when discussing previous analyses whence conclusions on international business, and thereafter on forecasting.Item Open Access Hearing the Participants’ Voice: Recognizing the Dimensions of Procedural and Interactional Justice by enabling their Determinants.(Springer, 2021-04-10) Kaur, Parmjit; Carreras, AshleyThis paper examines how a deeper understanding of procedural justice and interactional justice can enhance the effectiveness of causal mapping workshops using Group Explorer® software combined with the Decision Explorer® tool. A dual facilitation model is outlined that explicitly links the determinates of procedural justice and the key elements of interactional justice to the stages of causal mapping workshops. This model serves to illustrate how the participants’ voice in group workshops using causal mapping is strengthened, producing an authentic outcome that more accurately represents participants’ thinking. Enabling the determinants in the model supports the dimensions of procedural and interactional justice, ensuring these more authentic outcomes. A link between these determinants, dimensions and the workshop process is confirmed through qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis draws on causal maps created with relevant concepts/ statements, highlighted to illustrate this more authentic voice. The quantitative work analyses responses to a post-workshop questionnaire using scale reduction techniques and looks for significant relationships between participants’ voice and the determinants of procedural justice, interactional justice and the causal mapping approach adopted.Item Embargo Procedural Justice in Group Decision Support(Springer, 2019-08-07) Kaur, Parmjit; Carreras, AshleyThis chapter reports a case study that explicitly considers dimensions of procedural justice in the negotiation of new “working contracts” in a large organisation. The case outlines how using a causal mapping Group Support System (GSS) helped in a specific client intervention to deliver a new negotiated contract. Following key stages from the strategy making approach known as ‘Journey Making’ we illustrate the development of an agreed identity and vision of the organisation and the strategic priorities that were identified and prioritised. One particular area of focus centres on a contentious and difficult political negotiation of revenue contracts between the central decision-making executive of a multinational chain of health care practices and the practitioners who run the chain of practices. The intervention resulted in the acceptance of a new collective agreement on working contracts between the centre and the practises opening the door to rapid expansion of the business. We show how a focus in the workshops on the dimensions of ‘Procedural Justice’, using a “Dual facilitation process”, helped to support positive extra rule behaviours in turn fostering the successful renegotiation to be delivered.Item Metadata only Understanding the links between Procedural Justice and Causal Mapping: outcomes of focus group workshops using facilitated Group Decision Software.(Warsaw School of Economics Press., 2015-06-23) Kaur, Parmjit; Carreras, Ashley
